He should win the 1500.
I don’t see him winning the 5k though, Teare will beat him if he doesn’t lead the whole race. He has a shot at the podium though.
He definitely won’t win the 800, and will have trouble even getting on the podium.
If I were him, I would only run the 1500 to get to the Olympic trials fresh. He has a legit shot at the 1500 team, so I’d go for that rather than a second NCAA podium.
How do you not see Hocker winning the 5k when he just took down the Iowa state duo/teare in a fast paced race? If Teare or anyone else doesn't push it up front, it will just become a kicker's race which would play into Hocker's hand with his 800/1500m speed. Historically NCAA championships have been sit and kicks at the 5k distance. The Fisher/Knight/Mcdonald era 5k's have all been sit and kicks. Hocker knows he has the best kick so he won't lead any part of the race till the last lap.
As far as the 800m goes, it would definetly be the most difficult to win but not impossible. There aren't any guys that standout as sub 1:45 at the moment. Devin Dixon has run sub 1:45 but has been a shell of himself. Hocker did beat a 1:45 guy in Festus Lagat when he ran that 1:46. The challenge for Hocker might be trying to navigate around a field full of 800m studs that are taller/bigger than him and putting himself in a good position with 200m to go.
