Official results yet to be posted, but this girl run just about 5:00 for the 1600 as a freshman... completely solo. She came in through 800 in about 2:20 so with better pacing she could be closer to 4:50. Could be the next big thing.

Maybe. Maybe not.
Girl my kids ran against in middle school did a 5:1x solo. I mean solo, solo in 8th grade. Won by 200m probably. Was never heard from again. Utterly pedestrian HS career.
With splits of about 67-73-84-76, it's not unreasonable to think she could run 5-10 seconds faster right now with even splits. Nice showing.
8yh grade girl in California ran 4:46 mile last week, she is this week's next big thing.😁

There are:

Thank you for that. Brenda Martinez's HS best would have been also-ran. And Mary Decker's 14 yo performances continue to hold up as especially impressive.
There was the Flower Mound girl that ran 4:53 at regionals this past weekend in TX, also.
It's a good time, but there are several 9th graders running that time around the nation, and quicker as well.
