Rowbury will make the team in the 5, and Simpson won’t make the 1500 finals at the trials.

And Jenny’s career was far, far superior.
Anyway, I agree with the poster that said she will rally to be like 5-6 at the Trials.

Simpson's performance yesterday is not a result of her aging, rather it's an indictment of arrogance - both on her part and Wetmore's. To think that you can not race for fourteen months then open up eight weeks before the Trials and be in a position to make a very difficult team is absolutely asinine.
I think the only way she has a shot is if they approach the next eight weeks the same way as someone would who doesn't have a qualifying time - race every 7-14 days, including an 800, a 5000 (to evaluate the feasibility of other options), and several 1500s. But it probably won't happen, as they'll convince themselves they know better. I think without a radical departure from the game plan, she'll sneak into the final and get 7th or 8th.
I agree completely. There's a world of difference between being rusty and 4-5 seconds behind the competition and being 10-12 seconds slower in a 1500 like she was. Her only hope is to get 4-5 races in the next 8 weeks to push her VO2 max and neuromuscular development back to an elite competition level.
Jenny will make the Olympic team. She’s a Championship racer.
Is it possible to have a realistic shot at the 5000 this late in the game? 8 weeks seems like a short timeline to be a serious contender for an Olympic spot.
8 weeks is plenty of time.
Does anyone remember Klosterhalfen's 2019 season opener?
(I'm German, so I often use her results as comparison.)
It was a 2:07 / 4:09 double. That's somewhere between mediocre and horrible.
3 1/2 weeks later it was down to 2:04 / 4:03, another three weeks later she ran a 8:20 3k.
A bad rust buster is not that significant.

Agree on the first part. What other sport can you do well if you don't do your sport and only practice for 14 months?!?!

4:10.... Yikes. Maybe 5k is the move?
If you are 13 seconds down on your 1500m you are a long way off running your best 5000m
If you can't make up your mind what event you want to do you will excel at neither.
I've been saying she is s miler since before her World Championship win. You were all going on about her moving up then and still are.

Looks like one or two steps ahead actually 🤔🤭
Taking a year off at that age was a dumb idea.

It’s a generous comparison. The difference is that Koko was very young in 2019 and still is. Jenny is 30something and is not going to bounce back as easily.
I don’t see that it will come together for her this year.
Yup, she's done. Has been for a while now, it's the revenge of the mullet.
Lets see what Craig thinks of Jenny's race?

I improved 14 seconds on my 1500 time in 2 weeks and I was much older.
from what to what

Rojo will say on the next podcast, she needs to go back to the steeple and he can coach her. 100% sure.

except her american record

Would I be surprised if she runs 4:02 by mid June? No, I wouldn't. Would I be surprised if 4:02 makes top 3? No I wouldn't.
She has a real shot at being on the Olympics team again. I don't think she can medal ever again, but I wouldn't say that making an olympic team and not medaling is 'done'

Rowbury will make the team in 5k. Jenny will not make the 1500 team.
Rowbury held the 1500, 2 mile, and 5K ARs for periods of ~4 years, respectively
2 medals in world championships [1500, 3000]
2008-2016 she was either 1st or 2nd in US nationals in the 1500
That doesn't sound particularly irrelevant to me
I’m the same age as Jenny.
I can still get out there and run as fast as I ever could.
But I have significantly more “off” days where I just don’t feel it during the run.
Not saying she’s going to make the Olympic team, but I think she’s earned the benefit of us waiting to at least see where her next race falls.
