I’m a sophomore in hs hoping to break five at a meet next week in the 1600. A couple of weeks ago I ran 5:10 down from 5:24 at the beginning of the season. (Which was an improvement from 5:33 freshman year) I was wondering what one would consider the most realistic/ideal splits to run sub 5. As much as I would hope to run the perfect 75 75 75 74, I don’t think that kind of pacing will work for me. In the 5:10 I did I ran 75, 80, 78, 77.. Thoughts? Feel free to maybe share how you broke 5 for the first time. I think something along the lines of 72, 77, 77, 73 would be ideal, but I’m curious what others might have to say. Just to add, I am not a speed guy (2:22) 800 and 64 sec 400) so I know more even splits will be better since I probably can’t close faster than maybe 72 realistically.
