Just like in the NCAA 3k, Teare had to lead so much. If the lead was being shared Teare would probably win. Hopefully, he changes his tactics because he can't run away from guys like Hocker and Grijalva.
Teare might be trying to cultivate mental toughness. I think it might be working.
Very fast times.
To have four guys running that fast in the NCAA is amazing.
What is insane is the number of people posting expectations of sub 13:10 who have no idea how fast sub 13:10 is.

Goal was the Olympic A Standard, not the W

teare only led the last 1600
So this is what, a 13:30 without super spikes? Unimpressive.

Also add in the NAU guys (including Luis), the BYU guys, maybe some Notre Dame guys too. Should be a ridiculous 5k at NCAAs.
And yeah, no way anyone's running sub 13:10 without a generous BTC pacing job.
Why would Hocker & Teare go for the Olympic standard in the 5000? Aren't they much better at 1500?

No.
2 is better than 1

Maybe Hocker. Teare definitely doesn't have the wheels for the last 200m of a Trials 1500
Hocker needs to step up and stop letting Cooper do all the work.

Running fast distance times in April seldom bodes well come June at NCAA’s.
My sense is... a lot of the guys running fast now will be gassed come June and races will be slow and tactical.

Also, look at the last few years. There are absolutely no more than 5 Kenyans faster and no more than 5 Ethiopians faster than Klecker. Something like this may have been the case (with a top 5 US guy) when US running was poorer and had maybe one guy under 13:20, but no longer. Klecker is world class.
.
His trajectory is fantastic, but he is nowhere near world class yet.
He’s already lost to Fisher, Scott, McDonald, and Knight this year. None of those individuals are world class either. Three races, three loses - against mild competition.
Right now, he’s an unproven elite runner. When he consistently runs sub 13 or makes an Olympic final, we can call him world class.
Knight made 2 world champ finals, so yes, he is world class.

This 4:40 1600 (Teare's splits) right before/after West dropped out killed their OG A standard chances. Closed with a 2:00 800.

The question is, does he even have the wheels to be competitive in the 5000? It's hard to tell at this point.

Hocker and Teare closed in 56 and 57 respectively. In a faster race I could easily see them 5-8 seconds faster. Sub 13:10 might be stretching but wouldn't surprise me.
