Also, look at the last few years. There are absolutely no more than 5 Kenyans faster and no more than 5 Ethiopians faster than Klecker. Something like this may have been the case (with a top 5 US guy) when US running was poorer and had maybe one guy under 13:20, but no longer. Klecker is world class.
.
His trajectory is fantastic, but he is nowhere near world class yet.
He’s already lost to Fisher, Scott, McDonald, and Knight this year. None of those individuals are world class either. Three races, three loses - against mild competition.
Right now, he’s an unproven elite runner. When he consistently runs sub 13 or makes an Olympic final, we can call him world class.

I would say this is quite interesting. First, McDonald & Knight have not beaten Klecker in a 5000 and there's no way they would. Second, how is someone not world class if there's only 10 guys on the planet running faster than you? You mention running sub 13 consistently makes you world class, well I don't know of anyone that does. Most DL races finish between 13:00-13:10. Similar for championships. I guess there is no one world class?
I would say 13:10 or better is world class. american record is 12:53.

I apologize - I meant McGorty. As for Knight, he beat him over 2 miles.
World class is not a participation trophy. World class means you are the best of the absolute best. World class means you are favored to make the Olympic finals and medal.
Klecker has run three professional races against national class athletes and lost all three. He’s in the mix for the 5k at the US Olympic trails, but he’s not the favorite.
Again, his trajectory is fantastic and I like him as a runner, but he’s not there yet - may never be.

I disagree with this, being the best is or favored to medal in olympics is a higher level.
