Walter was 93.
Walter was 93.
That he was the vice President of the nicest President we've ever had speaks volumes.
He broke the glass ceiling for women by even choosing Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate.
Walter Mondale was a good man and a politician with no obvious scandal, if there was one ever. A good life lived.
RIP Walter Mondale.
He (and Hubert Humphrey and Eugene McCarthy) served a very different Minnesota than what exists now.
True.
And he and Carter were in a different America that exists now.
In 1984, I was 10, and living on a military base.
Reagan was my guy then.
He seemed strong.
But I watched the election that year...i was in Hawaii so I stayed up a BIT later...
I wondered (quietly) if a woman could be vice president.
That wonder would give leverage to Hillary and Elizabeth, etc.
But I never saw hatred for Bush or Mondale in a matrix that exists today.
Full disclosure:
1992-1995 Registered Republican
1995-1997 Registered Natural Law Party ( it seemed humanitarian)
1997-2015 Registered Republican
Donald Trump enters - current Registered Democrat
But Mondale was a good man no matter what.

What happened? I used to have admiration for Minnesota senators.
Actually, it makes sense.
Sad sense, but sense.
Eugene McCarthy was from a Democratic -Farmer party sector
However, within the last 5 years, rural areas gravitated to Trump and the GOP
As money lessened, the mom and pop farmer needed Green Giant and Pillsbury to fry.
This is what you see.

The one who started the Afghan war that still hasn't ended? What a nice guy.
Not defending Jimmy carter but why bring up the afghan war when countless presidents have done massively worse for the world
