With changing field size, fewer races, and schools not competing due to Covid what will the top 17 men and 19 women qualifiers look like from 800-10k?
What kind of times do you think will get you into nationals?
Will it be similar to previous years?

If I had to make a guess
M1500 - 3:52.8
M5k - 14:31
M10k - 30:28
M3kSC - 9:18
W1500 - 4:37
W5k - 17:12
W10k - 36:20
W3kSC - 10:55
The 17/19th runners in 2019 ran (M - 1:51.9/3:51.5/14:27/30:32/9:09) (W - 2:13.2/4:35.4/17:08/35:59/10:57). In each event the times were a bit slower for athletes not doubling, injuries, etc. But we can expect these instances to be the same this year. A couple of weeks ago I was thinking the times would be worse than what they were in years past, but that changed after seeing times from the past two weekends. The current standards for qualifying are (M - 1:53.1/3:54.4/14:39/31:18/9:32) (W - 2:16.4/4:42.2/17:43/38:23/11:33). With more than a month left to run faster times I expect most of the required times to be faster than in 2019, the only event I don't think will be better is the steeplechase because, as a very technical event, many athletes lost a year of training so they wont be as prepared for it this year. This also supports my assumption that other events will be faster as top athletes will not be focusing on the steeplechase.
