Just for some background, I used to run the 400m only with a PR of 50.7 but that was when I was still in HS.
High School PRs: (17 years old)
300m - 37.x
400m - 50.7
600m - 1:27
800m - 2:20.xx (unofficial time trial)
1600m - 5:37
5k - 19:33
As you can see, I had no endurance whatsoever. I had no confidence in myself to run the 800 due to the lack of it.
3 years later and here are my PR's as a 20-year-old
800m - 2:06 (splits of 59 and 67 - I know, terrible)
1600m - 4:53 (off of 15 ish miles!! :O *subtle flex* )
5k - 19:19 (and now you can see why 15 ish miles never helped my 5k lmao)
I'm figuring out how I can break 2 minutes. I'm definitely no 800/1500 runner. I would say I'm more of a 400/800, but my 400 right now is probably a 54 at best. I'm not in 50. shape anymore, that's for sure. The last time trial was a 55.
I ran the 2:06 only coming off of 15ish miles a week again. But I don't even know how to train for it. All of the posts are talking about guys who need like 40+ miles a week, but distance training breaks my body. I hurt after ~25 miles a week. What are some types of workouts that would help me, given my current PR's as a 20-year-old? How long of a time frame should I give myself as well to break 2?
Thanks!
Here is my typical week
S - 3-5 mile run at 7:40 - 8:00 pace
M - 4x400 @ 65 w/ 1 min rest. 4x200 @ <33 w/ 30 sec rest
T - Rest
W - 2-3 mile run at 6:30 - 7:00 pace (tempo kinda thing)
Th - 5-6 mile run at >8:30 pace
F - 4x400 @ 60 w/ 3-4min rest
