I usually take 1 day a week off. More for the mental break than anything. I mean if you have to get in that 3 or 4 mile jog just to have that daily run, do you really think THAT is what is going to bump you up from barely finishing to a PR?
I like having a free day that I can use for those days when "life happens."
Easy over-distance is a rest day.
IIRC, even the doper Regina Jacobs took a day off each week. It resonated with me as I was never more than a six day a week runner in my serious hobby jogger days.
