Republicans tend to underestimate Covid risks — and Democrats tend to exaggerate them.

Here's Bill Maher's excellent rant on this.

If you actually look at the Gallup poll data on hospitalization that is not true. Overall Republicans tend to overestimate the % of people that get hospitalized but by a much lower percent. Whereas 70% of democrats think 20% of people or more who get covid will be hospitalized. There are very few on the right who either underestimate the risk or think it is zero risk. I couldn't read the New York Times article behind the paywall but I'm assuming there was an anti-Republican spin because that's what the New York Times does. Most Conservatives I know think Covid is less serious than it is, conservatives are just less risk-averse generally from a health and safety standpoint than liberals and have a different view of the role of government, thus the disagreement on the type of response we should have had.
Democrats are democrats because they don't know how to validate information rationally. Hilarious watching the imbeciles put on hazmat suits just because COVID is new factor in their universe.
Democrats are all about feeling morally superior to whoever the hated enemy is.
I need to watch Bill Maher now. I thought that all TV comedians were leftist suckers like Colbert and Trevor, I guess not.

Actually it is Republicans you are describing.

This is the best summary of the last 14 months I've ever seen in under 8 minutes.
About 30% of Americans identify as Democrat. So something like 12% of Americans are idiots. I’m shocked.
Agree 100% to this analysis. Now, that I have read an point of view then what should I do? I should consider confirmation bias and read other points of view with an open mind.
Its interesting how many of your false beliefs such as more deaths from flu than Covid were discussed but this is what you come away with from the article.
But it is a surprising fact and the survey said 28% of republicans thought that the majority if people with Covid were hospitalized. 41% of dems and 28% of republicans? These number doesn't ring true to me. I would like to see how the question was worded.
NY Times is so full of it.
The actual hospitalization rate is between 1% and 5% per the NYT.
Which is it?
1%. Or 5%, which is 400% more?
Some journalism.
Good morning unckle dipsht.
Perhaps you should consider that the times is simply reporting what different sources say or what different data sets indicate.
The hospitalization rates vary by state, city, country, variant circulating, and the number of asymptomatic or undetected infections estimated. The latter still being something of a mystery.
Jesus Christ jamin. Get out of here. You are an embarrassment to the running community.
Headline should be: EVERYONE OVERESTIMATES COVID DANGER, BUT REPUBLICANS ASSESS RISK FAR MORE ACCURATELY THAN DEMOCRATS.
They should do “likelihood of a black person to be killed by police during a given interaction”next. Dems would probably think it’s like a coin flip 😂

1% to 5%. Real scientific. Rigorous reporting. How much does that car cost? Between $20,000 and $100,000. Well, which is it, $20k or $100k? I am simply reporting what different sources say or what different data sets indicate. The price varies by state, city, country, options circulating, and the number of undetected features estimated. The latter still being something of a mystery.[/quote]
This is a scathing indictment of the modern media’s fearmongering and abdication of their journalistic duty to dispassionately inform the public during this pandemic.
Across the political spectrum, everyone VASTLY overestimates the risk from Covid...Dems worst of all.
For life to get back to normal, people need to realize that the risk is really quite low for most people, and extremely low for children.

Being wrong about hospitalization rates doesn't change anything. Being wrong about asymptomatic spread results in doing stupid things like not wearing your mask and prolonging this pandemic. The mistakes aren't equal. I am not shocked at either result. People suck at probability and just read this board for all the idiots who don't understand disease spread. We still have people on this board going kids aren't going to die so it is ok for them to get infected.

This is what happens when you get your 'news' from Trevor Noah and CNN.
Progressives are so unimpressive......
