Former 4:08 miler in high school. But spent some years injured and I'm not sure if I am back in shape and ready to roll like my former self. My races suggest im in shape, but I believe I am running below what I'm ready for and hopefully just waiting on a mental breakthrough. Here is my training over the last year.
Summer 2020 rebuild- 70-80 miles per week, 1 tempo per week usually 4-6 miles at 5:30 pace and then hill sprints.
Fall and Winter 2020 added in some shorter faster tempos, more strides, longer fartleks, keeping mileage almost the same.
Jan-Feb 2021 Mile reps, k's, 800's all around 70-75 per lap and 8k cross 25:00
March-now. Mileage dropped to 60 miles per week. Workout examples: 8x800 starting in 72 per lap finishing in 65 per lap. 10x300 at 45. 4 mile tempo at 20:00. Recently did a 5x600 workout starting in 1:35 and finishing at 1:28 with 2-3 mins rest.
But my 1500m races have been well off of where I want to be. Instead of running in the neighborhood of 3:48, I am barely breaking 4:00. Someone tell me I am doing the right thing, or the wrong thing? Maybe I'm in my own head after all these years not racing.
