Back then people actually played defense in reg season games unlike today in the NBA.

Yep.
As the players got bigger they are unable to sustain playing for real for so many games, so, they pretty much fake it and fight out the last ten minutes. This is not every game mind you, but they are not competing most minutes.
it was different when there was one big man per team like chamberlain or Russell they took a lot of breaks while the smaller guys ran, But when 3 or 4 guys on the court are huge , even as athletic as the are, you get a lot of dunks for your money but not a good fight.
Good question, horrible replies so far. The decades that Rodman played in (80s/90s) were far more impressive and physical than any that preceded them. Why are you even talking about today’s game? Weird take.
Anyways, if he was plopped into the 50s or 60s with his 90s abilities, he potentially could’ve averaged 30+ rebounds a game. He would’ve gotten to most of the rebounds that Wilt and Bill got (well over 20) and then some due to his relentless hustle.

You are right , good answer, fair and square. I guess frustration with how horrible basketball is today just overwhelms all thought. And the stupid no blocking arc. Forget it. Get out of the lane I am traveling for a dunk! I don't care for 3 pointers either. Good shooting, but bad for the game.
I would guess he would finish 3rd to 5th in rebounding, always behind Wilt and Russ

Good assessment. Bear in mind that there were more missed shots back in their day, so more rebounding opportunities.

The probably couldn't put the ball in play so the only chance would be a based loaded walk or HBP which is hard to predict.

You're telling me Dennis Rodman couldn't get some hits. Guys a professional athlete. Probably could have drove in about 50 or 60 runs hitting in this 6 to 7 slot

With the huge strike zone and long arms Rodman wouldn't have had a chance. He would have had to start his swing before the ball left the pitcher's hand.

You're not quite right. Some of the most impressive physical specimens of the 80s and 90s were more impressive than preceding decades but don't act like every NBA player is like that. For every Mailman or Admiral you also have Luc Longleys and Joe Kleins. In physicality you are dead wrong as in Chamberlain's early days there was little to no repercussions for fighting and cheap shots. Wilt had to go to the emergency room for a staph infection after he got his teeth knocked out during one incident. At the time teams would sign guys just for this purpose and Wilt didn't want to seriously injure someone in a fight. Once he stood up for himself that practice virtually ended.
When you look at Rodman next to some of his contemporaries most don't appreciate what he brought to the table. He was one of the most incredible athletes to ever play in the NBA and played defense so well as to make it profitable. Before Rodman you were just expected to do your job on that end and play hard. Rodman would have done very well in that era I think better than he did in his career overall but he would not have dominated the best titans of that era. Rodman also seemed inexhaustible but the pace they played in during the 60s would have tested him for sure. 7 seconds or less was a joke to those teams.

The other question is this: Would Bill Russell in his prime make an NBA team today.......?
For sure, he was a better athlete than the most of the guys that come off the bench to play center or power forward.
With the longer rebounds from 3-point attempts, hanging around the basket wouldn't have as much value as it did in his era.

Same height as Darryl Strawberry. Dennis Rodman could have been an awesome hitter. He's good for 50 or 60 ribbies

I seem to recall that Michael Jordan was a professional athlete, too. Did he ever make it past Double-A?
Russell and Rodman have many similarities. They're both great athletes who rebounded and played defense. They weren't scorers but they were instrumental in their teams' success. Rodman was nuts however.
Shaq stated that Rodman was the only one who could guard him ( whether true or not it's what he said) and ae know that Russell gave Chamberlain problems even if Wilt's stats were still good.
Russell was a great athlete- a HJ champion- so the idea that Rodman would have done better than Russell in the 60s isnt necessarily true.

At Double A, Jordan slashed .206/.289/.266. For those of you that don't know baseball, those numbers represent major suckage. He probably wasn't good enough to play on even a low A team.
Having said that, for someone that hadn't played since early HS he was impressive.

If he had only , you know, transitioned, he would have been amazing even at softball at the pro women's level.
