I've tried to only select albums that I've been able to come back to, years after having first listened to them, and liked more than on my first listen ie albums/artists that weren't just a 'phase'. If I knew more classical music and/or jazz I would probably put those records on my list before "rock" (broadly defined as anything that isn't jazz, classical, of folk music).
Modest Mouse - This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About
Laurel Halo - Quarantine
Supreme Dicks - The Emotional Plague
Lil Ugly Mane - Mista Thug Isolation
Animal Collective - Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished
Stabscotch - Uncanny Valley
Alien Observer - Grouper
Morton Feldman - Rothko Chapel
Joanna Newsome - Ys
Daniel Johnston - Hi, How are You
