What would the world of running look like it if it had the same amount of global participation and interest as, for example, football (soccer) at the competitive high school level? How much untapped running talent is out there skateboarding or sitting in front of gaming consoles, etc.? I went to a successful running high school in Illinois and to me, besides the excellent program, tradition, and coaching, a lot of the success also came down to the fact that the coach more or less forced all freshman boys who weren't participating in another sport already to join XC, with a enough lasting to the end of the season. Kids who never would have dreamed of becoming runners, never even really enjoyed it during HS, became very competitive athletes. What would it be like if being a top runner had the same amout of interest as all the kids who want to be football, basketball or other top sports stars?
