Today I did a hard 7km for a tempo effort and my garmin watch showed to me that I was at 105% of max heart rate for several minutes at the end.
Normally my max heart rate is 190 but I was above 200 for several minutes.
I wanted to know if this is dangerous to run above your maximum and what are the risks?
There is really no limit and max HR depends on what you do. The more of your muscle mass you can enable, the harder you can go, the more adrenaline there is, the more demand there is for blood, the higher the rate.
The heart is controlled by the electrical signals and as long as the heart receives a strong signal and is healthy and strong and can contract and stroke fully well, everything is safe. Training and use of the heart is extremely important for the contracting ability.
if the heart suddenly beats at a rate 50-100 over normal, it is something that is not right, but as long as you are approx at the normal rates, it is quite normal.
So max HR is not a max number programmed into your "brain", but a result of your effort.
