There seems to be a good mix of good, bad, and decent ex-collegiate runners as college coaches, how do these guys transition into coaching? How does running fast, like being an all-american in division 1 track, help athletes become coaches after college? I'm also not suggesting good runners make good coaches, I'm asking about how being a good athlete helps guys to become coaches. Any thoughts at all would be appreciated.
