Boaz Cheboiywo.
2001 NCAA XC Champion.
2002 NCAA 10000M champion
Wow, that is sad. He was a great runner.
Not just ncaa track star, ncaa champion. Let this be a lesson to people that your success will be used against you if you do something really bad. So the moral is, dont do anything stupid.

How is his success being used against him?

We should do a 'where are they now?' for all the Kenyans that ran and did well in US in highschool or college but disappeared afterwards.
Thread hijack for some Torres Brothers love

OK I will go first: Tim Danielson. A great HS runner from Kenya but now in prison.
And of course I know Danielson was not from Kenya but is there a reason to compile a list of Kenyans as the list is quite lengthy period of runners or non runners who went down the wrong path at some point.

People don't care about you or talk about you if you're not successful. The news (sadly) salivates to write articles about successful people allegedly doing controversial things. If Boaz did nothing in his life, no one would care that he got a dui or read an article about him. The news doesn't want to write articles about people who no one cares about--less notoriety and response/clicks equals less profit for the greedy news who sickly profit off of people dying such as the dui victim.
Dude was the real deal in the NCAA and continued to produce after graduation. I remember his strong season in 2005:
3:35
8:11 (24th all time for 2 miles)
13:19
Get a cab, call an UBER or call me and I will can you an UBER or a cab !
Not a single one of you mentions the death of a woman he struck. This is a tragedy caused by a drunk man. He makes news because of his name, fine, but overlooking what he did is wrong.

You didn’t mention her either you hypocrite. The woman has a name. Christen Knight.
There is a drinking culture in Kenya, mostly beer, and I suspect Kenyans may have a physiological disadvantage in consuming alcohol, but I may be wrong on that - those who know may update. Tragedy for the woman who passed away and also a tragedy for this Kenyan who appeared to be a good guy.
Don’t drink and drive.
Very sad tragedy... prayers to that woman’s family. No disrespect Rojo but who cares who the top 25 finishers were...

That is not the point. U said his success is being used against him. He will be tried the same as he would if he was a nobody. Just because he is known in running circles doesn’t mean his notoriety is being used against him
