The Current science no longer backs this, the human body is a survival machine it will only use its stronger short burst energy systems when it has to, it actually uses the oxygen based systems first.
Covering as much ground as possible in the first 10 seconds is not recommended, you will consume more energy with a very fast first 200m. A controlled accelerator wastes less energy, even in a race as short as the 200m its important.

The leaders in that race only went out in 52.3. They could have run 1:44 or so but not much faster off of that.
I don’t think we will ever see an opening lap of a championship 800m that slow again.
That’s like the people that marvel over Centro’s last 400m at Rio. It shows that they don’t understand how fatigue works.

I thought it was understood that Wottle Was Running His Own Race here and didn't intend to be DFL at the bell but there he was. He was also not in top form on this day
