High school senior here. I enjoy distance running, but it seems that others on my team are simply capable of running much faster than me off of the same exact training.
I take running seriously but have never broken 4:50 in the mile, and am horrendously bad at cross country.
In the past year, however, I have been doing a lot of weightlifting. Here, I am easily much stronger than my distance running teammates— without having done too much training, I'm stronger than half the guys on our varsity football team in basic lifts (bench, squat, deadlift, etc.) at a much lower bodyweight than them.
Looking at my own body type, I feel like I have much broader shoulders and larger muscle bellies than faster distance runners.
Should I have been a sprinter? Did I squander my talents by doing something I was objectively not meant to do?
