Yeah, feel kind of the same.
But holding out hope. Didn’t he have a decent big meet result in 2019 somewhere?

Does not have what it takes, what does that even mean, he just got and injury in 2019. It will probably be Lyles bednarek and Laird for Tokyo.
Plus the last 3 you named are still young, and very promising, but have not shown sub 20 ability.
I'd put Gillespie and Boling over them
Yeah, he kinda pulled a Jordan Vaden....BOOM!!!!..there he is. As we know Vaden,,,,poof!!!! I expect to see the same thing with this guy. One thing for sure, forget the 200 and 400. If he isn;t thiking that,
The schedule. Just focusing on the 400m.

Since Norman isn’t running it’s definitely lyles and Kenny. With everyone fighting for the third spot. From the laird, Boling, the hs junior who went pro. It should be interesting. I think Boling and laird will be shot by the time trials come around tho.
Is Kenny going to try the 200/400? I’m assuming not since no one else seems to be. Freakin ridiculous.
Boling started the season with a 10.32 100m so maybe he's taking it easy? I would be worried about Laird dropping such a fast time early on but we'll see if he proves everyone wrong. He's been sticking to relays since then. Other people to consider in the 200 include Bromell, Fahnbulleh, Kyree King as a dark horse, Gillespie, Flournoy, Rowe, Bassitt, I'm hoping for an Elijah hall comeback, Slade and Knighton are the newest batch of future US stars. Bednarek and Lyles are the only two I'm certain about.
Yeah Lyles and Bednarek barring injury got it locked up. Interesting, almost like 2016 with Norman and Lyles, this year we have Slade and Knighton. If Norman was running I think we could sweep the medals.

He’s just really young. He was a HS phenom out of Wisconsin. Ran insanely fast in juco, ran sub 20 and sub 45 on the same day. Dropped like a 19.4 with insane wind lol. Then went pro. He just didn’t get much hype out of high school. You could Laird popped up out of nowhere. Juco guys don’t get much pub
Speaking of JUCO guys....
The Harrisons
Butch Reynolds
Tim Montgomery
Kim Collins
Lee Evans
Fred Kerley
Jon Drummond
Maurice Greene.....not sure he ever actually competed at KCCC
Henry Neal
Ato Boldon
Antonio Pettigrew
Warren Edmonson
Eddie Hart
Ronnie Ray Smith
Davidson Ezinwa
Bernard Wiliams
Steve Mullings
Millard Hampton
On the ladies side, anyone know why English Gardner DNS? Is Hannah Cunliffe retired now?
Oh, and Justin Gatlin is not running the 2. He's focusing on the 100 and no longer the speed endurance required for the longer sprint.
Why you're not that excited about Kenny Bednarek I do not know. He is legit. He's just 22. In the course of three different years already, 2019-2020-2021, one totally shredded by COVID, he's already run 19.80-19.83 or basic equivalent of that, including this windy 19.65 (=19.83). All he needs is health to join Lyles and maybe Norman or another sub-20 guy on the Olympic team.

Hmmm, sucks. Like you guys I see him as a longshot to make the individual 100, barring injury to others. I thought the 200 might be a better shot, given that 19.5 without specific training--and he knows how to run rounds.
The 100 is looking like it might take 9.8x to make the team, which I think will be a tall order for him...but the 200 might take "only" 19.8x, which to my mind is a weaker standard than 9.8x.
But if his SE is waning, then fuhgeddaboudit. And yeah, I know that he can focus on the 100 and maybe still make the relay squad, so there's that.

To my mind, he just hasn't yet had that signature bit-meet victory over a stacked and peaked field. Not that he's incapable, just that there is something lacking. Yeah the times are nice, but that's like Baker--great times, not much else.
Yet.
True.

Noah Lyles is on anothr level right now, so we ned two others.
Elijah Hall who I bragged about as a JCer is the one I want to see reemerge and start realizing that potential. People forget....NCAA Indoor 200m record holder.
Gellespie I was talking about in HS, he could also begin to realize that potential this season. He is the only sub10,00/sub20,00 in Oregon history.
Laird is a bit of a ???? at least too me, I need to see more.
I do expect Boling to seriously be in the mix, a 20.05ish wouldn;t shock me at all, but do expect 2022 more his time, now sub 19,95ish becomes realistic.
Not all that excited about Bednarek, he reminds me of Trini Kleston Bledman, impressive tmes but nothing else.
I agree with you that Lyles is on a different level right now. Bednarek, doesn't have what it takes to medal in Tokyo. The battle for the other two positions should be between, Boling, Slade, Knighton, Laird and Fahnbulleh. I just hope these other five men perform at the time of asking.

It's silly to pick college and high school kids over Bednarek right now. Come on, did Bednarek steal your girl or something?

Get serious, they have almost 0 zero chance of making the USOT. Making the semis would be an accomplishment for them. Forget about the half dozen pros, there are about 3-4 college athletes ahead of them.

THANK YOU. Yes, this.
Am I the only one who’s not completely sure of lyles winning? He did run 19.5 in 2019 but last year his bests of 10.04 and 19.76 are close to Bednareks and his indoors was very mediocre

Yes, you're likely the only one or you're in a vast minority
Lyles is not an indoor specialist and last year's results are a wash for everyone.
Outdoors is where he shines. End of story

I’m with you. Fame may have gotten to his head, or covid was a wet blanket.
If he is a true champion he will pull a Dolt and deliver when it counts—but nobody has been able to firm up as quickly and as well as Dolt, IMO.
Also, Bednarek might crank out a 19.7, which would put on some real pressure.
The HS kids::Slade I like, but he’s just too young yet. Knighton, who knows—it’s a lot to ask to make the final. What if Young rounds into form?
NCAA’s should be very informative.
