While I do think Centro is done winning medals, and has been since 2017, I still think he'll at least make the team and may very well win the trials.
Jerry is good at training very strong runners. I don't know that he is good at training blazing fast runners. Anyone that has hit 30 years old knows speed goes first. If I put all my effort into trying to break my 19yo PR in the 800, I'd probably fall 3-5 seconds short, even though in every event 3000+ I am a much stronger runner now.
Centro outkicked Hocker in a 5000 a few months ago -- give him some time to sharpen. If he can get down to 1:47-8 range by the trials I think his strength and savvy will get him another US title.
