I've noticed for a week or two now that when I go for my runs, I feel a dull pain in my shin off and on during the run. Like, maybe every 50/100 steps or so. It doesn't seem to affect my form and doesn't seem to get worse from running on it. I can definitely "find the spot", but it's really only noticeable during/right after the run. Could this not be a stress fracture? Everything I'm reading online sounds like it is.
It could be but more likely just shin splints.

Yes. I've been building my base back up for the fast few weeks after a routine time off. 27, 43, and 49 miles. Also haven't taken a day off in 21 days. I'm going to lay off it today and see if "the spot" goes away over time.
FWIW I'm used to holding 70+ MPW during training and that sorta mileage progression is pretty normal for me.
I suffered a stress fracture in the shin during high school. There was nothing subtle about the pain, it was a very sharp pain and I had to stop running completely and immediately. I'm sure there are degrees of stress fracture but it sounds like something different to me - shin splints or compartment syndrome
Thanks for all the feedback. Since racing is a long ways away, I'm just going to tone it down a bit for now. Even just not running today, I can barely feel the spot now. I may be overthinking this.
