Wartburg men ran some pretty solid 10ks last week that would've put them in very good position in the national rankings, BUT the mens and womens 10ks were combined that day, and since Wartburgs coach didn't bother knowing the rules, their 10ks don't count nationally and now they're throwing hissy fits on social media

I personally enjoy seeing this. Wartburg is just a bunch of pricks with inflated egos. Of course their coach didn’t know the rules... typical

They're D3 so that would get them to nationals and it's the women whose times won't count.
You must not know how slow D3 is. It is like comparing women to men and saying women are slow.

Reminds me of the time when Adams' States coaches' daughter qualified for NCAA's in a co-ed 10k race, and her boyfriend at the time ( a sub 14 5k runner) ran 1 second faster than her. Hmm... That mark got tossed as well.

Nope, it's the men's times too that don't count
Real question, though: Why is it illegal to run a co-ed 10k anyway? The only potential benefit that I would see is for the women, and Wartburg's women in this particular race did not run impressive times (plus there was a huge gap between slowest male/ fastest female). If the NCAA is worried about pacing, why are same-gender pacers a commonplace occurrence? Seems like co-ed races could be a nice way to save time at smaller meets.

You do realize Loras coaches hosted the meet, right? And Dubuque ran a co-ed 10k a week later...and North Central has ran co-ed 10ks at their last chance meets for years. If that many coaches don't know the rule...either ALL the coaches are idiots (yep, I'm talking to you, Al Carius) or the NCAA hasn't exactly pushed it. Also, the NCAA Rulebook doesn't include the rule at all...take a look. As for D3 sucking...Freiburger did run 29:36. That time is #1 in the BIG10 at the moment. As I have said on these threads before when peeps want to crap on D2, 3 or NAIA...most D1 schools are pretty mediocre as well.
I run for simpson and I can tell you personally that the wartburg runners and coach are good dudes. I like competing against them a lot. I think its easy for teams to get bad reps when they are good, but I am very pleased I get to race the wartburg guys regularly.

D3 Qualifying Criteria directly states - no national qualifying performances from mixed gender races.
Rules are the rules. Coaches job is to know the rules.
4. Meet Management. Marks will not be acceptable if:
a. Contestants or spectators are asked to officiate;
b. Achieved on other than certified (i.e., surveyed and all measurements certified after initial construction and after
resurfacing) and regularly used facilities;
c. Official results are not preserved and available for inspection (i.e., retain photos and field-event results through
six months after the championships) *Note: Finish photos and field-event results may be requested by the
championship committee for the verification of performance;
d. Only combined-events competition in which fewer than six eligible student-athletes start or all participants are
from the same team. Combined-event only competition must have at a minimum two different institutions, or an
institution and at least one unattached athlete not affiliated with the participating school;
e. Intermediate times are taken from a longer race (e.g., 800 Meters during 1,000 Meters);
f. More than one race is contested concurrently (e.g., 3,000 Meters and 5,000 Meters contested together);

Maybe those above coaches were smart and didn’t want to extend the meet by 40 minutes? The Wartburg coach either didn’t know his top runners were in shape to run a national qualifier or didn’t know the rule to ask for two separate 10k’s. Put the blame where it belongs!
Dubuque held a mixed race because no one could run a national mark. North Central held mixed when it was allowed years ago. Haven’t since the rule change because Carius, unlike Chapman, isn’t a fool!
Freiburger is good though, you got that part right.
