Some key words: Technical terrain, steep hills, walking these hills, relatively high pulse, easy on the legs. What do you think? Is¨m wondering whether it is as good or better recovery than easy running on road. In most extreme case, mostly walking due to steep hills. Discuss.
it is what you make it
I really like trail running for recovery. I often (Probably wrongfully) try to force myself to run a certain pace on easy days but that usually goes out the window when I hit some really technical and hilly trails.
For me, I usually will hit a 3-6 mile trail run 1-2 times a week as a two a day.
I felt beat up mid week so I ran 8:40 pace on the trails this week and it gave me the rest I needed, felt great rest of the week
Several advantages to doing recovery on trails:
* Softer ground means less muscular load
* Varied (slower) terrain makes it easier to not get hung up on pace
* The scenery is nicer, more likely to relax you
