Aside from a few fun runs as a kid and a lot of running on the pitch, my 15 y/o son had never raced a competitive step in his life until yesterday. He ran a 5:26 mile with a 73 second last lap. Totally raw and not yet fit. I was an average D1 miler (4:07) and back-end scorer on a very good CC team (25 min @ 8K). His Mom similar CC resume and was a 2:12 800 runner.
How fast will he go this season? I told him he would be under 5 in a couple more races and then sky is the limit. He laughed at me and said I was crazy. Don't really know what his top-end speed is, but have seen him run 60ish in the 400 and turn a few 27 second flying 200s. I suspect he is significantly faster than this, but who knows at this point. The coaching he gets is marginal but best for me to stay out of the way and only speak when spoken to. I will update progress here.
