Watmough was a decent schoolboy runner and then stopped running and athletics until his early 40s but maintain some decent fitness with other sports but not to a high-level.
His improvement over the years has been consistent and down to regular training and avoiding injuries. He commented on Facebook that there are many people in the 55 to 60 age group who are much more talented than him but finding the right formula is always a tricky proposition and getting the best out of yourself in running and athletics in general.
The key is sensible training, regularity, avoiding injuries, and maintaining a balanced approach. as a high-level CEO of a high tech company, Mr Watmough maintains the right balance and treats athletics as a hobby and not as a job and that also helps. Running is stressful life from his job as a CEO.
