Girl? She is a woman and you don't call her by name? Now maybe you understand. Nobody started a thread to discuss how amazing her win was.
It's amazing how teen females are girls or women depending on the situation. For example, was Athing a woman when she was 18?

Wait a minute...she is 18. For God's sake when did 18yr olds become women?

You’re missing the fact that she is also world-class at 400. Perhaps as good as she is at 800. Not many 400-800 types exist, and even fewer can throw down in a 1500. If Rudisha or Amos ran 3:40 with a 55 second last lap it would generate excitement here as well.
I don't think so because I specifically stated that she's world class at 400 600 and 800
It's not comparable to a 3:40
Comparable to a 345 at best or even a 350
Again she's 25 seconds off world record time. So what's the big story here?
You really don't think most of the elite top 800m women could run this time in a 1500
You think it's so exceptional or out of the ordinary?
I guarantee you most of the top 800-meter women can run similar!
Is nothing newsworthy in any of this. No one disagrees that she's a really good runner and is awesome 400 to 800
4:16 is still a long way from Olympic standard, but a 62 second last quarter says that Mu can get well below 4:10. I know of only one person who is world class at 400, 800, and 1500m. Perhaps Mu can be the second but right now this is closer to the 1500m ability of the American record holder at 800m.

No it wouldn't

But can you guarantee that most of top 400m/800m runners can do that. That is the question.
For example, UK's Keely Hodgkinson ( Athing broke her Junior 800m world record ) could - at this very moment - run 10 seconds faster than Mu BUT Keely's 400m best is 54 something.
Oregon could take just about anyone with decent 400m speed or good endurance and bring them close 4:00, if not under. Who's to say that Peralta, who hasn't shown potential yet to be an NCAA leader at 400m, wouldn't be better at 800-1500 in that program?

Luis Peralta of Oregon ran 3:47 yesterday. He's primarily a 400/800 guy

That is incredible. What does that convert to for 1500... 3:58?
Athing Mu ran 4:16 for 1500m, not a mile, as almost all - but obviously not all - posters know. Her time converts to a 4:36 mile (which still impresses me).
A 4:16 mile converts to a 3:57 1500, but, again, she didn't run a mile.
I'm guessing that readers (until I came along) just ignored pippi p's error. It was probably an honest mistake.
Imagine her in a 1500 against an elite field of 8 women. The winner runs 3:53 while Mu is by the Steeple water. When the 7th runner fades to 3:59, Mu is forgotten with 100 meters to go.

All 800m runners are not equal. She ran the 400 at NCAA’s for Christ’s sake. And her final lap indicates she could go much faster. When was the last time a 400m all American was in contention for the 1500m title?? At USA’s in 2019 she died after 600m, this indicates a huge improvement in strength. Texas A&M knows what they are doing
Semenya is maybe the only other runner that I can think of who is capable of a sub 50, sub 1:58, sub 4:15. Many 800m runners can do two out of the three, but not all 3. I'm guessing that Dibaba or Hassan cannot run sub 50, but then again they've never tried.
Mokgadi Caster Semenya OIB (born 7 January 1991) is a South African middle-distance runner and 2016 Olympic gold medalist.

Athing Mu (born June 8, 2002) is an American middle-distance runner. She set world under-20 records in the women's indoor 400 meters and 800 meters in early 2021 with times of 50.52 and 1:58.40 respectively, and indoor 600 meters in 2019 when she was 16 years of age. Mu's time over 600 meters, 1:23.57, is the second fastest ever run indoors and the second fastest run by an American in any condition.
So compared to one of the best ever
She's a second slower f400
2 seconds slower at 600
4 seconds slower at 800
And 17 seconds slower at 1500
But somehow we're supposed to get super excited over the 17 seconds slower 1500
Like that time substantiates or makes her away more impressive Runner
I think the 400 800 combo is what made her really impressive and this is just people looking for something to get excited about
She's 2.5 seconds off world record pace for 400m. 5 Seconds for 800m, and 26 seconds for 1500 m.
And by that it doesn't seem to indicate any sort of extraordinary range. At least at the current moment. I think someone else mentioned that she also grew up running all these distances so there's certainly in her wheelhouse

I’m assuming you are talking about 1500m times with that ^^^, in which case I would be very very surprised if Rudisha ran that slow. It very well may have generated excitement here because of what an awful indicator it would’ve been. The man ran a world record, to do that I would think you would need to be world class at the events above and below. I mean even brazier, another 400-800 guy who is not as good as Rudisha, ran 3:36, and closed in 55 or something.

She ran 4 :16 in a duel meet . As a freshman. It has a good chance of ending up being the fastest time by a freshman in D1. It is faster than Jenny Barringer, Rowbury and Houlihan all ran as freshman. This is significant to anyone who has even a sparse understanding of track and field.
I'll agree with you on one thing, she is in fact already world class at 800. But she didn't exactly fly into Monoco to run a rabbited 1500 in 4:16, did she? She ran it in muggy Texas in a race she lead for most of the time and closed in 52, easily handling a girl who has run a 4:13 equivalent indoors. Stop the nonsense.
Why is she running the mile? She needs to continue to focusing getting stronger and she could be a real 400m/800m threat. The hel with the longer distances.
Honestly tho. Is she the female version of Brazier?
