First, I will say that Nikki still deserves respect, etc.. I am surprised on the similarity between this and Elliot Page's recent coming out. As far as I know, Page uses he/him and they/them and identifies as transgender and non-binary as well.
Thank you for this comment. That is the exact problem many LGB people have with situations such as this. For years, people wanted to just be "people" and not feel wrong if they did not fit exactly into society's gender and/or sexuality norms. The idea of identity is troublesome and there is nothing wrong with just being a lesbian as you said. I am saddened for younger non-gender conforming people or gay people who see high-profile cases such as Hiltz and Page and feel that they are unnatural in their existence and that they must create a new identity for their lives. Some LGB people just want to live life as a human first, and their same-sex attraction is a secondary or tertiary characteristic. Period.
