Hello, I am a freshmen high school runner and I have a high school varsity track meet on Thursday this week. I am a 1600m runner, but my coaches have been trying to train me to run the 800m, and then the 2 mile. After literally begging them to put me in the mile, my coaches decided to finally do it. However, to keep running the mile, I have to lay down a fast enough time to prove to them that I can run it. I most likely have to run low 5:20's, which I have never done before. The way I run the 1600m is I start out usually in a 75-77 second lap, and my times usually drop down to 80-85 after that, sometimes closer to 90 on the 3rd lap. Is there any advice for still starting out fast, but staying strong the last 2 laps.
