one kid on my team ran morning doubles and did a 20+ mile LR on sundays. he quite literally ran double the mileage of the rest of the team (if you did your sunday solo run, you'd hit about 50 miles)
where did this get him?
3rd fastest on the team at 3200m and 5k XC at like 9:30 / 16:00
all that mileage and couldn't sniff a scoring spot in the 1600, 800, 4x800
Even if he is no longer in high school, Jakob Ingebrigtsen used to run 100 miles a week as a high schooler.

But think how much slower he'd be without. The kid worked really hard for those times and he should be proud of what he accomplished even if he "only" ran 9:30 and 16:00. That's faster than I've run.
