    Everyone has bad races, and it looks like Aschbrenner had a bad one at NCAAs. He did run 23:36 for 24th place at Pac 12s, though, so it seems like he has continued to improve. Not everyone is going to have an exponential improvement curve going from high school to college.

    IMO Nico's calf issues are more concerning because they could indicate a lack of the durability required to have a successful pro career. He's had a history of major injuries so it might be more of a mechanics/durability problem than his coaches' fault.

    Jace ran well this cross country season. The entire CU team ran poor at NCAA's are you going to blame all their High School coaches. Newbury Park produces studs and gets them ready for college and honestly it's something not many programs have ever accomplished. I'm a fan and get motivated by it.


    Please list the studs other than Nico and Jace that have been prepared to run in college. Their top graduates the past few years have been:
    Ethan Ronk
    Kyndall Long
    Nathaniel Gardner
    Ethan Duffy
    All obviously very well prepared.


    You do this every time and its pathetic you're spending your time looking up these athletes. Now let's explain to you once again.

    Brosnan took over Newbury Park and these guy you mentioned were already well into HS and some he only coached 1 year. You're not going to change kids that came from a bad culture right away. It was truly amazing what he did in 4 year with Nico and Jace's class and now beyond.Those are the kids he worked with for all 4 years.
    So keep looking for reasons to hate while you keep loosing at your HS. Newbury Park is just getting stronger and better every year while you complain and cry.

    You seem very angry that someone would point out that some of his runners that he coached might not have done well.

    Are you in a relationship with the coach? Are you his mother? Why so offended? The fact is, the graduating runners have not done well until Jace and Nico. If it takes 4 years before you can take blame, you can’t take credit for 2 years for the sophomores that are doing so well.

    Is it at all possible that those athletes that did well in high school before Nico and Jace were just fried? Is it at all possible that the coaching just didn’t work long term for them?

    Go ahead and tell me since I pointed out something that isn’t heaping praise on the coach that I’m pathetic or a hater or whatever. You’re the one that sounds pathetic getting so worked up that someone could possibly point out it hasn’t been 100% successful.

    I think you have a hard time listening or understanding.

    I actually coach against Newbury Park and the coach has been super nice when I reached out to him. When I had questions he has been great to speak with. I'm from LA county if you must know :). His advise has helped and I remember Newbury Park was nothing to ever worry about before the current coach. Maybe you should speak with him instead of hating are assuming.

    I have no problem telling you the actually school I work for and my name if you would kindly stop hiding behind that keyboard of yours. Let me guess you have low self-esteem and this makes you feel better and you won't dare tell us.

    How is any of that relevant and why the insults? It is very simple. This is a message board with anonymous posters. Somebody pointed out how successful NP runners are out of high school. I provided some data that contradicts that. Why are you so offended?

    You listed guys that were on the team for 2-3 year before the current coach arrived. Not exactly convincing data. Good luck and stay positive in coaching and training it helps :)

    coach d - hulst also ran 9:04 as a freshman. I remember. I ran 9:20 as a ninth grader and knew I wasn't all that good. Running in California in the 70's was a golden era. I am from the midwest, but ran at a few west coast meets in high school. Nothing makes me feel more poignantly about those days than reading about Eric Hulst's passing. Makes me grateful for everything I have.

    His duels with Serna were legendary. Hulst was a courageous man of God and his passing from brain cancer was a tragedy. What is largely missing on this site is the simple joy of competitive running where everything is reduced to numbers-- and egos are inflamed to a
    reductionist zero sum perspective. Some of you old skulls will remember Terry Williams from Lompoc, who not only excelled as a prep, ran for 2 Oregon nat champ teams (one with Pre) was a 4 time all-American, but then became a doctor. Although he cherished his running years, the greatest part of his life was serving others. For the truly wise, running becomes the spring board to something that transcends sport.

    Yes, that was broken a few years ago by Cole Sprout.


    :-) I assure you what Hulst ran in (shoes) would makes the ones Cole Sprout wore look like super supershoes. :-)
