Hi everyone.
I am running a marathon in 3 weeks and expect to get around 2:50ish.
I want to buy a pair of "super-shoes" for this and was wondering what your advice would be on what to get (Vaporfly/ Vaporfly 2/ Alphafly/ other suggestions)?
Thanks in advance.

You are three weeks out and you are asking this now?! At this point, just run in your training shoes. You may get injured testing something out this late in the game. -
I like the Vaporfly's (Next%) a lot. Haven't tried VP 2 or Alphafly.

What do you train in?

Good luck getting your hands on the first 2 iterations of vaporfly unless you’re willing to drop twice retail on a foreign seller. Brooks and Skechers have plated shoes that people like. Read the reviews on running wharehouse -
Thanks for the replies so far.
I currently train in New Balance v1080/ Hoka Clifton 7s for my easier runs and Brooks Hyperion Tempos for my faster runs. I like the Brooks Tempos a lot but read online that the Hyperion Elite were very firm and that put me off wearing them for a full marathon as I often get shin and ankle pains when running in firm shoes as I am still fairly new to the sport.
I previously owned a pair of Nike peg turbo which I loved (why I'm leaning to the nike VF) -
The Vaporfly Next% is out of stock most places except for weird sizes. You can get the Alphafly in the Mango color at RunningWarehouse, in any size, and probably a lot of other places. I prefer the Vaporfly, but the Alphafly is also a fantastic shoe. You should absolutely buy it and race in it. If you can find the Vaporfly in your size, that's a great option. Either will really save your legs for the last 6 miles.

The Hyperion Elite 2 is apparently completely different--uses the same foam as the Tempos so if you like those you'll probably be good with the Elite 2s. They supposedly last longer than Vaporflys as well, if you care about that. -
Vaporfly's. Any version. 4%, 4% Flyknit, Next%, Next% 2, doesn't matter. The Vaporfly Next% and Next% 2 are the best but both versions of the 4% are almost as good and even brand new will be cheaper.

The Hyperion Elite 2 is a great shoe and not too firm. The first version was indeed a dud. If you like the Tempo, the Elite will provide more cushion and the springiness of the plate. It's a great shoe. -
Vaporfly Next% is the best and safest bet. You should be able to find it new on eBay for around $250

Take a look at the Skechers Razor or Speed line if you don't have luck finding Vaporflys.
I like the GoMeb 6, but the Razor 3/Razor Elite would be good if you like more shoe. Nice light shoe with excellent cushion at a low weight. -

I agree. I'm in a similar position. My marathon is this Saturday. Picked up the Endorphin Pro a couple weeks ago and it has been painful. Literally, my forefoot has been in pain for both of my runs in them (17mi total). I'll likely just stick with the Razor 3 (have a fresh pair) that I have been racing in the last couple years. -
Thank you again for all these replies.
In the end I went with the Vaporfly Next%, which were still in stock in my size on Nike.com here luckily.
Very excited for them to arrive and to wear them in my race!
