With better competition he may hit 19.7 low or 19.6 high he smoked everyone in the race.
Not necessarily!
Wow, it is crazy to think that someone can run 19.81, a massive PR in March and someone thinks they could have run faster. His indoor PR suggest he was a 19.8x guy and that's what he did. And btw he did have competition at the points in the race where it was most important. My only concern and it is a big one, NCAA athletes who run super fast early in the season, 'very often' are shot when it comes time for USATF's. Laird obviously did not take any time off and has no periodization to his season. You can only go to the well about 3 maybe 4 times in a season, he already has one, he has SECs and NCAAs to go which will make 3. This goes for all events and anyone who doubts what I am saying, it only take 15 minutes of research to bear this out.
Thank you. This is what I have been saying for years. This time I am sure, would have won him a medal at many Olympics. But come Nationals, I suspect he will be running 20s because by June, he would have been competing every week for 6 months. The human body cannot perform optimally with such stress. He should cut his season short and focus on the Olympics. I hope he proves me wrong. I look forward to seeing what time he runs at National.
