Bill Bowerman prescribed that a lot for his 800-1500m runners. Usually 1-3 miles easy jog followed by 1-3 sets of 3x100m cutdowns (18-17-16 depending on your ability etc) 100m jog rest between reps, full walk recovery between sets.
I’ve used it with good success in the past (according to my own talent of course)
