Started the season with a 16:35 5K. Fast course, but still a mighty good effort from me since my previous PR was a 17:58. Leading up to the season I had been cranking solid 55 mile weeks with my club team at which point I returned to school cross country and averaged about 50 miles for a a couple weeks (I had to start doubling, intensity was about the same, little less intense I'd guess).
Fast forward my next two races I dropped a mid-17. Not bad I thought to myself, it was a tougher course and I placed slightly worse. And then yesterday, I dropped a 18:12 on a tough course I'd say (decently hilly). Everyone's times were slower but I am nowhere near the people I was the first race. People I was within seconds of beating the first race were now 30-40 seconds in front of me this race.
Up to this point, I never really had consistent 55 mile week training. Are my declining times and efforts just a sign of me overtraining from months of solid base work or did I just have a really good day on the first race? And If I am overtraining, what can I do to fix it. I have one last race in 2 weeks and it's my last race of my high school.
