So a couple days ago I had one of the best meets of high school so far. Ran in the 4x8 as the third leg and got baton in 4th place but managed to gap the field. At about 250 to go started accelerating and hit the last 200 in under 27 seconds. 800m split was around 2:05 flat so not my fastest as I ran 2:02 indoors late in February. Went through the first 400 in around 60 mid and specifically thought about how easy and controlled that felt and continued that way until 150 meters from the finish.
What do you guys make of this performance and training? Ik I’m in decent shape but this makes me think I’ve underestimated my fitness. Ran a 52.4ish in the 4x4 a bit over an hour later which was great, last 150 meters was strongest in that too. Coach mentioned doing more speed training with sprinters going foreword. Doing around 22-24 miles a week with a 9-11 mile long run and tempos and some speedier stuff. Also lifting which has helped a lot I think. Skip gentle days. Hs Sophomore. I ran sub 17 as a freshmen in XC. mid 4s in 1600 as well. I think I have a good combo of speed and endurance but I’ve struggled to hit my goals until pretty much this meet honestly.
