My take on the documentary is that the kids were obviously very stupid and immature, maybe worse. Also the entire team had a strange dirtbag vibe to them. I seem to recall that after they won the big meet they celbrated by toilet papering the place, which is not quite vandalism I guess, but it is an odd way to celebrate. Where I grew up, that is how the rival team would mess with you.
I think you should probably rewatch the documentary.
