is Hassan Mead done?

Yes, I think he’s done and has been for a long time along with most of the OTC guys! I also haven’t seen any results for his club mate, the Brit Tom Farrell?! Has he retired or been thrown off the team, he was great over 5km and the last notable result I remember from him was qualifying for Rio in 2016 - but nothing since then.

Sally Kipyego also raced poorly... I think she was outside the Top 10.

He got OTC’ed. Fingers crossed that the Aussie leaves sooner than later to salvage his career.

Mead, progress (and regress, 2020)

Using the 1500 as a barometer we can see a drastic drop in 2020, with all other distances affected negatively. Same thing happened to Chris Derrick, from 3:40 to 3:50. Once your speed goes, other distances follow suit negatively.

Yeah but she, you know, made the marathon team a year ago. Mead hasn't had quality results in a little while which is too bad. Want to see him compete a little while longer.

I really don't understand why any good NCAA recruit would want to join that club, particularly a stud like Tiernan.

Blankenship has had success, and Hannah Green, Mead, and Farrell have all had sporadic success, but none of the last three are anywhere near consistent. A guy like Mead, if on Bowerman, would be in Ahmed territory.

Mead has made every outdoor team since 2015. And a finalist at all of them - 15, 16, 17, 19. Sort of absurd to call him inconsistent.

He’s fighting some nagging injuries but I would never count him out. Still a favorite to make the 10k.

Farrell is gone. Look at the new roster. Nike is cutting people!

Why didn’t Chris Derrick have Ahmed success then?

I bet no. He’s fairly consistent at running fast when it counts so I’m not too concerned that he’s turning in mediocre performances in longer distances than he is competitive in at this time of year

Would assume part of Tiernan joining the group is to be closer to his wife / fiancee who is in Bend. He needs to get out ASAP. Perhaps with O'Sullivan now in Portland she can mediate some training written by Bideau.

It's really notable that the people who have had the most success from OTC - Symmonds, Blankenship, Mead - are the ones who have had the least to do with Rowland and team on a day to day basis and often did their own thing, Mead and Blankenship notably going to altitude by themselves.

Ahmed is literally one of the best 5k/10k dudes to ever do it especially a non African that was a very bold statement
