Kiptoo runs like Pre. Hocker runs a bit smarter.
a bit premature?
if teare beat him in the 3000 (it seemed like Teare was caught by surprise) he wouldn't have been the headline. additionally, he got super lucky that sam tanner wasn't in his race.

Sam Tanner is overrated dude. He does not look like a runner that can close in a sub 26. I'm sorry.
What luck? He didn't even qualify. Hocker would have put 2 seconds on him over the last lap.
Got lucky as in Sam failed to get in, it’s not like he was barred from competing, he just didn’t make it
Pre comparisons are cringe
Pre would of chosen to run XC. Instead the current Oregon distance crew runs the JV indoor race instead of the big boy XC race.
The new “Chucky American?”

You are illiterate.
Prefontaine never had a huge kick.
Cole Hocker is quick and rather unassuming.
Prefontaine was a dirty drunk who could run.
Cole Hocker is a decent guy.
Prefontaine was a loud mouth.
Don't diminish what Hocker is and can be by a foolish mindless Neanderthal who could run, apparently.
I don't care about the legacy of Pre...
Let Hocker have his own.
He's not an alcoholic.
Watch and listen.
You can talk all the smack you want as long as you backed it up, and Pre would do that almost every time. He had a classic hard nose runner attitude and I love it. I like both runners.
The insistence on bashing Pre in order to be contrarian is just stupid. He was good for running. The end. Stop trying to pretend any reasonable person would condone being a drunk.. or drinking and driving
Contrarian?
The fact is that he was an uncontrolled drunk.
I don't care how fast he could run...he wasn't clean.
For all intents and purposes, Hocker is.
It's not a fair comparison and i don't think he deserves an American legacy.

He absolutely backed it up with his FOURTH place finish in 1972.
The way he lipped off? Viren should have been 15 seconds behind.
Life is more than a free MG that you'll blindly crash anyway
But you know the OP is only comparing running styles not lifestyles.

The fact actually is that you dont know anything about Pre. You speak as if you knew the guy. Just... stop. He was - and remains - a hero to many, and a friend to some on these boards. Don't pretend you know what kind of person he was because you watched a Disney movie about him.

What I know and what I regard are two different things.
My playing field is based on fast AND Good.
Not fair to Hocker to compare him to a reckless drunk.
That's a fact...he deserves better
