You are either ignorant or just being dishonest. September 1 is the standard and nearly every state is close to that. Why not tell us which states you are referring to so that we can prove that you are incorrect?

This is quite untrue. Drew was barely coached until his sophomore year of high school.
I find that hard to believe considering his parents pedigree.
so i guess he didn't start running until 9th grade. Really good coaching from 10th grade on...maybe some months of 9th grade. Most kids aren't getting high quality coaching through high school. Running 65 to 70 miles per week for 3 years.
For the most part, nothing before puberty really matters. That appears to have happened in a big way between 8th and 9th grade for Drew.

all the more impressive how well New York does in xc, considering their date is december 1.
I teach kindergarten, and 8 of my 16 kids have birthdays between September and November. It's been a tough year to say the least!

I think Cain was overhyped, but we hadn't seen anything like her in awhile. I believe Tuohy was properly hyped. She was one of the greatest high school cross runners ever. maybe no.1 of all time. People appreciated that. But it didn't seem the expectations were out of control. I think a lot of people learned from what happened to Cain and tempered expectations for her post high school career.

Why would I be dishonest? I only have my own experiences to draw from. Regardless, Drew was one of the oldest kids in his cohort in high school, falling right at the cut-off.

So now that you acknowledge that he falls right at the cutoff, what's the implication? Say he had been born in January like Alan Webb was. Would he have run 1 second slower in the mile? 2 seconds slower? I'm just not sure why people think a few months is a huge deal.

They are not currently in high school. The ones most discussed throughout the thread have been out for a long time. All mentioned welcomed the notoriety. If you wish to be a public figure, be warned. We will be scrutinizing and criticizing you. If you consciously wish and try to be a famous runner, you deserve our analysis.

Great post, but I think it's 'mic' with a C. Short for microphone.

it's not cheating. it's not some huge conspiracy. but it's an advantage and it makes a real difference. he is 4 months older than fisher, yet gets an extra year of high school. 4, 5, 6 months can be a HUGE advantage in the teen years. It is a half year of being a man, where most guys have only been a "man" for 2 or 3 years.

how did this site let people like this 4:30 guy post garbage posts that are complete lies?
430miler isn’t playing with a full deck.
not gna name names here, it's a bit mean. But I think it's crazy to call Cain overhyped, especially since we know what happened to her and why she hasn't been running well since.
What I find most interesting is looking at the high school careers of those who have run professionally, won US Titles and global medals. Would anyone guess that those would be the best the US would have when they were in high school?
Colleen Quigley was 20th at Footlocker Nationals, Emily Infeld was 13th, Shelby Houlihan ran the 800 and was 28th at NXN as a senior, Emma Coburn was runner up in the Steeplechase at Nationals to a Saratoga Springs girl. Courtney Frerichs of course, no one ever heard of.
But a bit more impressive, I think is Jenny Simpson. Jenny *was* by every standard a high school phenom. She was 3rd at Footlocker and missed All Americans in track by one spot. She was well known but had company. Even better than that was Elise Cranny. 2nd at NTN to Alexa Efraimson, she ran record breaking times in high school. Now she's a pro with a real shot at making the Olympic team. I'm excited to see what this true "phenom" does.
I think this makes me realize how incredibly hard it is. How there are so many names in high school that get widdled down in college, and the pool gets even smaller to turn pro. There was a question, who was the best runner you ever beat? That question exists for a reason. It's so hard to navigate to reach your real potential. I applaud those who do.
Tough to be overhyped in running. You either have the times or you don't! Almost all the runners being mentioned deserved the hype because they were setting records
Just because you're awesome at 15 or 16 doesn't mean you will necessarily be the same at 20 or 22
Especially for women Runners who just threw the luck of the draw can develop in ways that prevent them from being Elite Runners later on
Anyway Mary Cain deserved all the hype she got she was one of the best runners in the world ever at her age. 424 mile for a seventeen-year-old is off the charts and might be the American record for The Next Century
Tuohy looks pretty good 914c 3k, and 324 1200 are solid freshman times considering she's coming off an injury.

Grace Ping is still in high school. The OP is stupid and this thread is gross. There's something wrong with you people.

the 430miler dude claims to have tanning salons. I suspect he has equipped them with hidden cameras livestreaming videos of nude beauties to the Internet.

It “makes a real difference” but you still haven’t answered the question. How many seconds in the mile is this HUGE advantage? Give us a number.
justausername, there is nothing that happened to cain that she couldn't have come back from.
John Carlotti.

Apparently OP thinks running started after 2010
The internet and smart phones became widespread then which allowed for sites like this one to flourish. There was no real way to hype an athlete prior to 2000. The news merely reported on actual results.
