There seem to be plenty of smart people on here (along with the stupid one) so I thought I'd ask.
I'm a process engineer (chemical engineering degree) with 10 years experience in the oil and gas sector. I just can't see job opportunities lasting another 30 years and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about other careers that might suit that type of experience. All the work I've done has been technical engineering (calcs etc) with a small amount of project management type stuff.
I really enjoy the work, though I'm somewhat conflicted by what my kids will think of me contributing to polluting the world. I had to decide between Medicine and Engineering when I went to university and I chose what I enjoy more but I'm beginning to wish I'd gone with Medicine, just for the job security and ability to work anywhere. I would be very happy with my choice if I knew I could work for another 30 years.
Any ideas for other jobs I could move to that wouldn't involve a complete reset (and another 4 year degree)?
