When I've run shirtless I've had both women and gay men whistle at me. I just say "thanks" and continue on my way. I've also had guys call me a fag - they get the finger.
People can be jerks. Get over it.

Women show interest, they're just not aggressive about it (usually). If I am interested in a guy, I will smile at him in a flirtatious way, instead of, you know, cat calling or whistling from afar.
It's not only in Florida, but being from Boston and traveling a lot for work, I have noticed that the cat calling tends to be worse in the south than it is in the north, for whatever reason. It is also REALLY bad in Latin America. I would NEVER run in just a sports bra in Latin America. Even when I would wear a t-shirt and non-spandex shorts, I would still get tons of cat calls when running there. I have actually been followed, propositioned, guys would show up at my hotel looking for me, etc. So, you kind of have to know your surroundings. I hesitate to run in a really "hot" outfit if I'm going to be by myself and the area is at all sketchy. It's too bad that life is like that, but it is. Be careful out there.

But when there is a group of you gals, is it ok to catcall?

Yes. It is called a gang bang
One time a guy in his 30s shouted something at me while I was running in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. I didn’t hear him and shouted back, “what?”
He said, “you’re hot!” Then grabbed his crotch.
I was in high school at the time. Yikes!

Women also subconsciously release pheromones which induce the flehmen response in males. Therefore, biologically, if a man shows interest in a female, it is always the female's fault. Case closed.
Did someone say that to you? If so, that’s really srupid and that shouldn’t happen. At the track I go to, if a guy is running with his shirt off, on numerous occasions I’ve seen women call the guy fat, gross, perv, or a incel. Also not cool right?
Dress to what makes you comfortable. Next time maybe have a friend run with you, boyfriend or brother if possible. See the people's reactions then.

We victim blaming now? At risk for what? How about we blame the predator rapist not the potential victim. Thanks.

I feel kinda odd about this attitude. On one hand what you say makes sense, but blaming implies something already happened. Wouldn't we rather prevent it in the first place?
Yesterday I was in Berkeley with my girlfriend and three girls in bunhuggers and Cal t-shirts ran by.
They looked like they were on the cross country team. Bunhuggers. I just wasn't sure what to think about that. To me that is more extreme than a sports bra. It felt like sort of an assault on my senses though, if that makes sense.
Yes this is an american problem. I am from europe and running with my sister or gf is no problem in europe. But in holiday in florida we had cars honking all the time. Really annoying. Americans are pretty disgusting
the don't think you're a whore, they just like the sight of your skin. i would not personally be rude enough to say anything, but if you are attractive, i would still look at you like a piece of meat

I’m in New England and my athletes very rarely have any problems, cat calls, etc.. so I think it may depend on where you live in the US.
Everyone knows why this thread is useless.

Some men just can't handle their testosterone and the effects it has on their urges and behavior.
Your intentions are good but guys definitely can resist their urges and behavior. Not to do so would be sexual harassment and is illegal. Theres just an issue with qualifying men being creepy and gross as just something that just is, and cant be changed, I know you don't have any personal connection here but this sort of rhetoric is part of why theres such deep rooted issues, people think this sort of behavior is just part of being a guy.
To clarify -
I said SOME men, not all. And I wasn't justifying, defending, or suggesting that it's ok. It's like saying "some guys can't save their money ... it just burns a hole in their pocket." Not actually saying that they literally can not. Just making an observation.
Alright, I’m just in need of some clarifications here.
When some of you say: “men are visual creatures” do you mean that :
Men love beauty so much that they constantly have to be surrounded by it? Like they live in super well decorated houses or penthouses, they have beautiful art on the walls, they are extremely well groomed and dressed at all times and take extremely good care of their bodies because that’s what they are attracted to, beauty...?
Or does the “men are visual creatures” only applies to men who can’t handle testosterone and depend on social’s acceptance of their trashy behaviours to get away with it?
A clarification would be appreciated.

I am not fighting anyone or anything,
for real I am wanting to understand why us(an apparently evolved civilization) are still trying to integrate old behaviours(neanderthals) into sophisticated civilisations(us right now).
How do we come up with one and the other without contradicting.
Do you know what I mean?

I realize women have a different experience in life so my perspective doesn’t mean that much. But based on what you’ve said, if 3 women approached me and another whistled at me for wearing only running shorts, I’d be feeling very good about myself.
