I thought it was a bad sign when Kerr made his move at 800 and immediately dropped Centro. Starting his 3rd year with Bowerman, Centro has run only one good race -- his 13 flat 5,000 time trial.

Any chance this could be translated into English?
“Sydney Gidabuday is the preeminent runner for the Tinman Elite training group, at the moment.”
A space monkey would have understood what he said.
You are not very bright.

Oregon guys. Hocker probably as well as Engels, Clayton Murphy
Murphy is basically an 800 runner who runs the occasional mile. He hasn't run the 1500 at nationals since 2017. He'll run the 800 only at the Trials.

I had the opposite take. I thought he looked great until the last lap. He ran aggressively. If he stays healthy, he's a lock.
Just merged two threads. One sayign Centro was done and the other saying he won't be in Tokyo.
Ran aggressively? At no point was he in the lead. He went out in 45, 1:43.33 for 300m and 700m splits.
How is going out in a pack at 3:42 to 3:40 1500m pacing running aggressively? Then he got run away from after that.
I agree with your basic point: he's got 3.5 months, so its way too soon to claim he's "done." But this wasn't exactly a success for him. Slow pace, mid pack, got dropped isn't where you want to be as reigning Olympic champ.

Did you watch the race? Honest question. I thought he ran pretty aggressively.

+1 Had heard he was only 85% fitness. Looked about right. Anybody want to name 3 Americans who are going to beat him?
He ran 3:40 and finished 6th at Stanford in April a few years ago and won A U.S championship that year. He will be just fine.

Their first 800 was around 2:00. Centro closed in 56 and 60. His last 200 was 32.

?
He’s not impressed, everybody.
Let’s not forget Centro’s timeline in 2019. Early July runs 3:52 mile at Pre Classic. Loses to Engels (among others.) Late July gets 2nd in the 1500, losing to Engels again, in 3:34. In September is top American at the World Championships in 3:32. In the fall runs 13:00 for 5k.
He knows how to be ready when it counts. Tonight was nothing but a rust buster.

Just for clarity, the 13:00 was before the 3:32. But I took issue with the claim that the 13:00 was his one good race with the BTC, because of that 3:32 in the WC final. He may not have placed as high as he’d have liked, but no American has ever run faster in a championship 1500.

Also, *3:44

he is off the centro sauce since leaving al sal......dont count on sub 3:35 ever again

But you have to remember the way Centro ran that 2019 World Championship race. After running the 13:00, you would have thought he'd be confidant in his strength enough to go with Cheruiyot. Instead, by the second lap he drifted back into the pack where he stayed the rest of the race, finishing 8th out of 12 runners. That 8th place tied his worst finals placing ever. And we're not talking some Engels-type just happy to make the finals, we're talking about a multi-medalist and defending Olympic champion. Frankly, Centro has been on a downward trajectory since the last Olympics and moving to Bowerman has not arrested that fall. Not saying Centro is done, but unless he wins the Trials in dominating fashion and medals at the Olympics, it' s looking more and more like that.
He’s a gamer, and it’s only March. Heaven forbid any Olympic contender is in peak shape in March.
Many of you have knee jerk off reactions to one race. This happens all the time. Runners like Centro are not concerned with March. Centro may be past his prime but recognize that when he is doing these races he is not trying to impress you in March. These are little races for Centro to get a feel for racing again and to see where he is at. This is not much different than a hard workout so it may matter to you during a pandemic when there have been few races but it is trivial for his aspirations.

I didnt. I only saw the splits. I caught the later races. Why did you say it was agressive running? Was he shoving his way through the pack?
Side question: what was with the huge amount of trolling in the viewer comments on the live feed? I had to turn off the comments. There was some guy who wrote negative comments about centro hundreds of times in a row. It was bizarre.
