Good for her.
Every year or two ESPN hypes up some women's college basketball player as the next big thing and someone who is going to change the game. Then they make it to the WNBA and toil in relative obscurity.
Don't get me wrong they are some great players, but I've heard this story plenty of times before.

Dont be a knee jerk curmudgeon. She is fully legit. Not just hype. She is basically a 19 year old female Oscar Robertson. Her vision is incredible, she can shoot the lights out and her ability to come through in the clutch is off the scale. Shes impossible to defend because if you look to take away her shot she'll make an incredible pass to an open player. If you try to keep her from distributing she'll slash to the hoop and score or just drain a three on your head. And shes not just some offensive focused player who doesnt play D. She anticipates passes like nobody else. As a freshman she's averaging almost 3 steals a game. So theres no doubt this one is special and is already living up to the hype. Slate even calls her already the best player who has ever played at UConn and thats saying something...
https://slate.com/culture/2021/03/paige-bueckers-uconn-best-ever.htmlOf course as good as Paige is I recommend you also check out Caitlin Clark at Iowa who is putting up bigger numbers than Bueckers. They actually run plays for her from as far out as 28 feet. Shes a ridiculous shooter.
Caitlin is excellent and has a great shot but not the athleticism of Paige. Actually woman college basketball has never been at this high of level and this interesting to watch.
I too am a Paige bueckers fan. Actually I watch many of her highlight films because she is a special player.
I am not one to watch entire basketball games but I like the highlights of the big games. Paige has a talented teammate named Westbrook. I always wondered if that Westbrook was related to the NBA Westbrook.

Have you heard of Brennan Stewart?

I love watching Bueckers because she is a true basketball savant and a wonder to behold. Like watching a great ballerina. But Ive found myself watching Caitlin Clark highlights more recently and just shaking my head and laughing. Bueckers is a pure basketball talent but Clark is like watching a circus act at times. You could throw a blanket on her and she would still swish a 30 footer while falling out of bounds. Ive never heard so many different announcers say "are you serious?!" with some of the shots shes made. when shes on she is ungaurdable and you just need to focus on beating them despite her. If Bueckers is Oscar Robertson then Clark is Pete Maravich. She will in all likelihood be the greatest scorer the womens game has ever seen when its all said and done even with the shortened covid season in her first year.
By the way, if you like Bueckers wait until next year because UConn has a recruit coming in thats supposed to be even better than her. Azzi Fudd. Some are calling her the best recruit in the womens game in a generation. UConn is going to be impossible to beat in the next few seasons...
Caitlin is amazing too. I just watched a highlight of her playing where the entire student section of the opposing team is standing and pointing at her and chanting over rated. She shut the group up fast. She went on to score 42 points plus numerous assists and steals and absolutely showed what a gifted player can do.
She's mentally tough.
Well, Iowa is barely over .500 in Big Ten. So I guess many teams have figured out how to beat them without beating Clark.
I think Caitlin is in the top 2 in each of the categories including scoring, assists and rebounds.
If her team is not that strong I am sure she is seeing many double teams which makes her numbers more impressive.
Women's basketball has changed drastically and has become interesting (at least the top players).

Going to slate for sport info is like asking jamin for dating advice. No sane person would place any value on their answer.
Seriously go read the articles written about Moore, Stewart, and Taurasi during their time at UConn and they read just like this one.

Women's b-ball was interesting when Dawn Staley was playing at UVa.

So your logic is because they praised three of the greatest women to ever play the game as great they are an unreliable source? Well dont get all hung up on one news source. pretty much all of them from ESPN on down have been saying ridiculous things about Bueckers since she was a high school sophomore. Look up what Steph Curry said about her before she even left high school. And Auriemma himself called her "as good as anybody I've ever seen" and as talented as Taurasi from day one which to me seemed ridiculous at the time but he coached her. So he should know. Anyway, the point is her hype isnt coming from just one source.

For me, it was Sheryl Swoopes who opened my eyes. If you watched someone like her play the game and didnt come away impressed than you didnt really appreciate basketball. I was too young to appreciate Cheryl Miller when she was playing but I remember watching Swoopes play in the NCAA Tournament in 1993 on her way to a national championship, including putting up 47 against Ohio State and I remember thinking if you cant be entertained by watching someone play like this then you have no ability to really appreciate the game. She was a wonder.
Is she as good as an 8th grade boy?
Letsrun posters always maintain that womens basketball sucks and that a decent HS team could beat the womens Olympic team.
Why get excited over a girl that couldn't make a junior high school boys team.

There are high school boys who can beat Faith Kipyegon, Genzebe Dibaba, Sifan Hassan and Laura Muir. But I am excited every time they race against one another.

Coach are you doing sarcasm again?
If not, watch her and come back and give your opinion. Watch enough to get a good sense of her skill level.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic. In other threads I appeared to be in the minority supporting the athleticism and skill of women's basketball when many posters suggested they'd lose yo average HS boys.
I enjoy watching women because they tend to rely more on ball movement, strategy and less in isolation and pure athleticism. I'm familiar with all the women mentioned in earlier threads. Taurasi is one of my all time favorite bballers- man or woman.
She's out for the next couple months. Fractured her tibia when her leg buckled.
