Geez,
Go back to work like the rest of us “heroes”.
Lazy teachers in California.
Remind me why you make over $90 K for working 6 months a year? Overpaid babysitters. Lazy slugs go back to work!

9 months not 6. Sorry. If you call teaching actual work.

Good troll post. The hatred of teachers bound to get some solid right wing anti union replies.
Really though... Sounds like you should keep your kids home and homeschool. I wouldn’t send my kids in the environment you describe.
Teaching used to mean educating. Teachers could allow students to learn, thrive and find their way into a career.
As someone who chose child care and education and who is the son of a late almost 21 year Marine (he retired in 1986), let me give you some insight. My father was infantry in Vietnam and was a Recon Marine. Recon, or Reconnaissance Marines are so skilled that while they are at the front, they can still survive. The USMC, the Navy Seals, AND the Army Rangers put themselves at such risk that they are so blessed with survival.
Teachers did not sign up for a life or death commitment. They are educating other parents' children who come from wherever.
In the field, the Armed Forces get training, arms, and a platoon. They have Drills to prepare them.
Now the tragic part. When i worked at the 2010 census, i worked with many wonderful veterans who were hard-working and so decent, yet had to deal with cancers, disorders or repercussions from Agent Orange.
They didn't deserve that for love of country.
Accordingly, teachers are not given the protections to suitably withstand a pandemic.
They don't deserve to die for their love of children.
Those of you glibly flippant runners who are doctors, attorneys, or white collar professionals...you didn't get there without teachers.
Food for thought.
Given that LA was a covid hotspot just 1-2 months ago and LAUSD serves some of the hardest hit communities with the highest transmission rates, I’m not totally surprised that there is pushback until teachers get vaccinated or protocols are in place to return.
As an LAUSD teacher who despises the union, I can say that all employees are getting vaccinated now through the district. They also have very strict safety measures in place just for the sake of arguing. It's been a year next week since we were told to pack it up for "2 weeks at most", and I am ready to get back to the classroom. but my fellow colleagues are not. One point for Stoppit Smith- I am the lead teacher on the safety committee of my school. I know I know.. in an emergency we are screwed. But one thing I know is that "supposedly" in case of an emergency like a huge earthquake or major fire, school shooting or something along those lines, teachers are supposed to stay behind on campus until most of the students are accounted for and picked up by parents/guardians. Knowing the teachers at my school- mostly women but still- there is noooooooooo way even half of them would stay behind. They would argue they have kids at home, an elderly parent, a dog, or what have you. So while I am in no way comparing teachers to our armed servicemen/women, there is supposed to be a clause that mandates teachers stay behind in an emergency, and so to some some degree teachers did sign up to be put in danger just based on all the mandatory safety drills we have throughout the year: fire, earthquake, active shooter, chemical leak, crazy armed guy fleeing the police, to name a few. But hey- I can't complain working at home from 9-2 making full salary, and then some with all the additional online trainings they are offering as fed and state money keeps pouring into k-12 education.
It’s funny how teachers “hate” their own union but love the benefits. You can always work for a charter or private school. Good luck negotiating your benefits and duties.
As for LAUSD in charge of vaccinations? That’s going to take a long time. LAUSD won’t even give teachers an access code so we can get vaccinated by our own HMO.
Bro, active shooters a risk of teaching? Come on... that’s like saying you take on the risk of a disgruntled employee shooting up the work place.
I do think we should go back but can you blame people who don’t want to?
CA is less than one month from a shelter in place.
Two weeks ago we were told to stay home and not go to Super Bowl parties.
Indoor dining is closed.
Outdoor amusement parks are closed.
Movie theaters are closed.
Masks required.
500,000 deaths and still counting.
But you can go back to indoor school buildings with thousands of people in a small place? No vaccine required? And all is good?
I think the Dems have no one to blame but themselves. They told everyone they were going to die for a year and now are taking a page right out of Trump’s playbook... learn to live with it, open up and reduce testing.
The classic ignoramus who thinks teachers drop everything they do at the sound of the school bell ending the day. No one "Actually" get 3 months of vacation. You may not have had the pleasure of working with an actual educator because that went out the door with No Child Left Behind. THAT was socialism. Teaching is not what is use to be by FAR. However, As a kid who grew up with public elementary and high school teachers for parents, I would like to invite everyone here who hasn't actually talked to a public school teacher about their job, do so and educate yourself.
You make a goood point about the benefits and negotiating our salaries and benefits. But do me a favor, check out UTLA's website. Filled with hatred towards white people, hatred towards school police etc. It's disgusting. I guess I don't hate the union, just the current leadership.
I'm just saying we get trained for these situations because unfortunately, they are becoming more common at schools. You have to remember, as teachers our first job is to protect children, not teach. We have a lot of lives that we are responsible for.
Do the districts that have already opened and where teachers have returned to the classroom have unions? Or is Los Angeles the only district that has a teachers union?
