They announced their virtual marathon today and had this line, "We anticipate having a reduced field size for the in-person road race on Monday, October 11 but want to celebrate and honor the 125th running of the Boston Marathon through this virtual race" Sounds like they'll reduce the details soon.
Qualifying even without a reduced field size would be harder this year as the qualifying window is longer.
Interesting how Boston is anticipating a small field and London has said it wants to have it's biggest field ever.

Thoughts? Seems like planning in either direction now would be hard but by October if you want the vaccine in the US you will be able to get it. Biden said by May every US adult will have access. I think if that's the case why not have plan for a full fledged race?
