A disingenuous liberal. Uff, so many, so little time. I think it's sad that you let the politicians in this country along with your teachers inoculate you in the cult of ethnic tribalism. "I'm white so by default I have it easy." Pity.
I haven't cared about Dr. Seuss since I was probably 4 years old. The mistake you're making is that you're assuming anyone who takes issue with it is viewing this incident in isolation. In reality, I view it in the context of "cancel culture" at large and continued racial division being wrought by the now ruling party in this country. I read the news pretty often. Since 2010, there's been a steady drumbeat of continued, unabated outrage by traitist groups (black, gay, trans, whatever) pushing for as much power and influence by casting themselves as eternal victims aided by guilt ridden white liberals such as yourself. At some point, a person says enough is enough. I think 74 million people who voted for Trump was the embodiment of that; it's not that Trump was beloved, but he stood in the way of these radical, deconstructionist groups.
Exactly! Don't fall for the left's denialism, they all know exactly what they're doing. I don't blame the actual people falling for the left's insane social marxist ideology, it's long been the plan since the 60's to subvert western society and turn the "victim" class against the "oppressor" class in order to enact full-scale socialism (which is why you'll notice that people like AOC, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar and other politicians spouting socialist ideas are rising to fame).
If anyone wants to understand what is actually going on here read up on - the Frankfurt School, Herbert Marcuse, Martin Heidegger, Antonio Gramsci and his idea of "cultural hegemony," Critical Theory, the Long March through the University. All of what we are seeing today has been explicitly planned.
What are you people even complaining about? A private company adding a "content warning" to a puppet show? A children's entertainment company deciding to no longer publish a handful of children's books, of which millions and millions of copies still exist? A toy-making company adding a gender neutral toy to its collection? THESE are the issues that make you fear for the fate of the country? Are you all five years old?
Please tell us, which racist caricatures should Dr. Seuss Enterprises be required to publish? I'd love to know. Unless conservatives are proposing that the government take control of the means of production (turning communist to own the libs), then these "issues" have no policy solution. And that's the point, really. Republicans have absolutely nothing of substance to offer the American people so they focus entirely on culture war BS.
And lets be real. Conservatives aren't opposed to "cancel culture." They LOVE to cancel stuff. Just look at how they treat other Republicans who dare to criticize their favorite loser ex-president. Republican Senators in Tennessee are demanding that colleges punish (i.e. CANCEL) athletes who take a knee during the national anthem. If it were up to them, they'd cancel Hollywood movies, they'd cancel rap music, they'd cancel legal pot, they'd cancel gay marriage, they'd cancel women's privacy rights, they'd cancel the right of atheists and muslims to hold political office, the list goes on and on. They're just mad that all the "liberal" stuff they want to cancel has now become widely accepted.

Sigh... I understand that. I am asking why this cartoon is bad? He is literally spotlighting how isolationism benefitted Nazis. He was calling these people out.
https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-dr-seuss-satirized-america-first-decades-donald-trump-made-policyWhat am I missing? It was posted earlier as proof that Seuss was racist. Later someone doubled down that another poster was missing the point. I am also missing the point and just want that clarified.
I am not even a Seuss fan. I scrolled the thread and now I am invested in figuring out why it is bad, LOL.
Don't count on liberals to understand historical context. They don't know history, politics, economics or culture - they just spout whatever their cult leaders program them to think. Of course Suess was talking about American isolationism during the WWII and how that helped European authoritarian powers, the fact that whoever posted that couldn't see that just reveals their ignorance.

Yeah, fortunately for Trump no one could accuse him of reading racist material....in fact no one will ever accuse him of teading.
Why stop there? Leftist riots that claimed a dozen lives last summer? Jussie Smollett and his fabricated hate crime allegations? Progressive creeps in Hollywood preying on women? Al Sharpton and the BS Tawana Brawley rape allegations? Leftist, you do not want to play this game with me.
Without accepting your failed and misrepresented presuppositions regarding the actual political objectives of the millions of Americans who stand opposed to racist, totalitarian posturing by the American (and global) left wing, I'll end by stating that your use of projection belies your true character. A relatively large minority of left wingers are the ones who gleefully assault, riot, censor, and even rape/murder, or at least enable it, but have the gall to argue that Republicans would just do the same, but worse, if they had unopposed political power (which our entire system of government was designed to prevent by the way with protection of minority party rights).
I'd honestly have more respect for left wingers if they just admitted they want pure power so they can impose their tyranny on their enemies. But I suspect you and the other useful idiots on LRC can't process any piece of information or argument that runs contrary to what Poli Sci 101 professor "taught" you.

Got it. You're scared that the culture around you is changing so this is the hill you're willing to die on. Seems weird to me, but ok. Good luck with that.

Welp. You've misread the situation entirely here.
Are you trying to suggest that lying and sex scandals are things that 'leftists' do but Trump loving 'right wingers' do not?

Failed presuppositions. Flippant, glib presentation. Strong attitude. Seems like a Gen Zer to me.
This post needs to be amplified; it is absolutely spot on. Thanks, zxcvzxcv.
Also, it's important to note that progressives are not saying that fans of Seuss are themselves racist. This is always the leap that FOX News and Trumpist reactionaries make: Not just, "They're calling Seuss a racist," which, arguably, he was, but also, "They're calling me (and you, viewer) a racist!" The poster above who said that Obama must have been a racist Nazi because he appreciated Seuss is making this point through projection.
It's exhausting, because it means that every attempt to make a more inclusive, more fair-minded, and kinder world has to include a million pandering caveats and apologies to people who want to make it all about them, personally. STOP IT. If the Seuss estate wants to stop publishing work that presents non-European people in reductive, inaccurate, and ugly ways, that is not a comment on you--even if you enjoyed the book. It is a demonstration of the recognition that representation matters. That's it.

Whataboutism holds no quarter here.
I feel bad for lefties. You all spend your entire lives living under the delusion that you're special which is only exacerbated by your "education" which consists of parroting back left wing beliefs to your teachers only to embarrass yourselves in the public forum with a complete and utter inability to reason. Pathetic.

That's not whataboutism. I don't get how supposed left-wingers doing bad things is evidence of anything.
People of all political views do bad things.
By the way, why do you not use your registered handle for when you're spouting off like this? Are you ashamed or something? Always seems weird to me that you're not even brave enough to use the handle you normally use, as it's still anonymous.
How is the fact that Dr. Suess Enterprises decided to stop printing some of the works of Dr. Suess unacceptable and cancel culture run amok?

I'm paraphrasing, but you essentially expressed the notion that people identified or labeled as Republican committing similar crimes renders the observation that people identified or labeled as "left wing" invalid. That's the embodiment of whataboutism.
I don't need a registered handle. My arguments alone are merited.

They won't even acknowledge that.
These guys feel safer fantasising that millions of evil leftists have all got together and burned every single copy of every Dr Seuss book in some sort of (probably paedophilic) demonic ritual. Their version of events helps them justify their childish outrage.

Liberals, led by the mainstream media, lost their collective minds somewhere in the last few years. Whether Trump drove them to it, or it was just some moral panic that arose, or combination of both, I don't know. But they have lost all sense of logic and reason. It doesn't seem to be getting better, even with Trump gone. We all kind of hoped Biden would be able to tone it down, but he seems engaged in it all as well.
Mr. skeechworthy, I am honestly curious, when you say "the mainstream media," what is in your mind? what specific examples would you point to of the media driving people to lose their minds? and what media do you consume?
Just to give one example of how the media has made us crazier on racial issues:
When police kill an unarmed black man it very often (though, admittedly not always) becomes a massive, breathlessly reported, inescapable national news story, yet when police kill an unarmed person who isn't a black man, it seems to get far less media attention. For example, I'd be willing to bet that the number of people who know about Michael Brown and the basic details of his story is multiple orders of magnitude greater than those who know about Daniel Shaver. The killing of Daniel Shaver was one of the most viscerally disturbing videos I've ever watched, and yet the cop who killed him not only faced no consequences for gunning down an unarmed, prostrate, sobbing young man, he was able to retire early with a full pension due to the "psychological trauma he suffered as a result of the shooting". I admit that Daniel Shaver wasn't exactly ignored by the mainstream media, but his story didn't become the sort of full blown 24/7 national news crisis the way George Floyd or Michael Brown or Eric Garner did - the sort of news story that seemingly every celebrity or political figured felt the need to issue a statement on. Is there any doubt that this wouldn't have been the case if he'd been black?
I fear that this sort of unbalanced reporting distorts our understanding of policing in America by making the issues seem more prevalent and more racialized than they are. For example, this study, commissioned by Skeptic Mag, found that liberals tended to significantly overestimate the number of killings of unarmed black people by police and the proportion of unarmed people killed by police that are black:
https://www.skeptic.com/research-center/reports/Research-Report-CUPES-007.pdf. (I would love for someone other than Skeptic Mag to do research like this, but my guess is the topic is fairly radioactive to many academics).
I always have to give a caveat at the end of all my posts like this that I do I think the BLM movement has done a lot of good by showing us how important police reform is and how harmful over-policing can be to the communities it is intended to help. But I still think that the media presents these issues in an unbalanced and exaggerated way, and I fear that this has contributed to the erosion of race relations we've seen over the past few decade and may make it harder for us to come together to find even-handed solutions to these issues.

See, you can't even tell the truth over something as trivial as having a registered handle.
Nah, you're either not bright enough to understand what I meant or you're missing the point deliberately (I imagine a bit of both, knowing how you operate).
Your point was 'Here are some left -wingers who did bad things, therefore I'm justified in hysterically screaming about Dr Seuss being cancelled, despite the fact that I know full well it hasn't been cancelled'.
My point was 'That's stupid and you're stupid'. Get it now?
