Ok recently I've been noticing there's a lot of debate over whether or not running is good for weight loss, does it slow the metabolism, how many calories does running burn, you can't outrun your fork, blah blah blah
Regardless, my concern is whether running in general keeps you lean.
For those who claim that they've gained weight running high mileage, how noticeable was this weight gain? I can't imagine someone regularly running a lot of miles (>50 mpw) at a decent pace (not slugging through 15:00 min/mile pace) ballooning into an overweight individual because they overate. Sure, you can't outrun your fork and can easily eat more than you burn, but you still need the efficiency to run long distances, so I just can't see someone like that getting fat, if that makes sense. I guess my point is if you're running well and you see yourself gaining weight, which could be for a plethora of reasons, it shouldn't be thought of as "running is terrible for weight loss".
Has anyone, particularly who has gained weight on the scale, actually become "fat"? Or do most of you stay lean (not even talking about losing weight, just maintaining) when you run high mileage?
