Wasn't Drew Hunter supposed to run this one? He's not on the start list anymore. Too bad, he was hot off of an indoor 1500 PB.
Are you a Tinman fan boy and BTC hater?
If these guys have good pacing from the start (which they will), and more than one is feeling good, the times will be fast. All are going for the Olympic Standard or better.
Scott and Fisher ran their second 5k of the 10k two weeks ago in 13:24/25. McGorty is primed and rested. Klecker has shown solid ability to get to the OST.
Hopefully all the guys pull their weight after the pacers step off.
Cheering for all of these athletes.
Thanks to the hosting group and especially the athletes for enabling an old track guy to watch an exciting meet of races.

13:00 being a target is all well and good. No one is in 13:00 form though. Marc Scott also has a PR of 13:22 (I’m not counting indoors). No way he’s dropping 22 seconds without getting on the train of another sub-13 runner. If he breaks 13:20, color me impressed.
Pretty sure JB is being facetious.
Scott and Fisher ran their SECOND 5000m in 13:24 and :25 last week.
No I’m not. All that last week shows is that he has great aerobic fitness at the moment. Does he have speed? It’s a big jump from 4:20s to 4:10s. Zero chance he’s breaking 13:00. Zero.

Closing a 7:36 3k in 54” would suggest he’s got the speed.

Olympic standard is 13:25 though. Yes, they will go under this. Probably most of them will. Sub-13 is not on the cards tonight. It would put Marc Scott in the top 105 all time. Not getting this without going with some other sub-13 guys.
I should note that I think Marc Scott will eventually break 13, but it’s going to come on Cheptegei’s or somebody similar’s train at a Diamond League race. Not in a BS early season meet.

The Olympic standard is 13:13.5.

My bad. USATF needs to update their website.

Funny, and here I was thinking the 5k was an event primarily dependent on aerobic fitness.
FWIW, 7:36 3k and 27:10 both show 13:00-13:05 fitness. Choosing to ignore that and say he is in 13:15 shape is foolish

Yet, he’s talking about times he’s never sniffed before. Again, I will be impressed if he’s sub-13:20. I’ll go run 5 miles in the cold butt-ass naked if he breaks 13.

Yup. I’d be very surprised if all three don’t go sub 13:05. I think ~12:56 is in the cards for all of them too.
Really, really rooting for McGorty after his pacing duties in the 10k. Dude deserves an elite PR.
Why be so negative.
Sure sub 13 is really really fast and hard to achieve but no need to throw out negative thoughts just so you can feel good if sub 13 isn’t achieved.
Man, I hope this race is really fast and the guys are happy with their results after putting it on the line.
The Olympic Standard is 13:13.5 by the way.

That would be great. Stratospheric really.
Happy for these young guns and wishing them well.
Allie Buchalski will aim for the 5000 meters standard 15:10.00 at Sound Running Invite tonight at 8:16 pm PST

Does nobody here realize how fast 13:00 is? Also, this is an early season meet. No ridiculous PRs are coming. They look fit and may very well PR, but it won’t be by a lot.
Yes we do realize how fast 13 is.
And that it is a stretch but really hope it can happen.
What we don’t say is 13:20 isn’t in the cards when a couple of these guys we very close to that in the second 5k of their 10k.
And we know what the Olympic Standard is.

This isnt an early season meet. This is the end to most elite athletes seasons. Most will be taking a break off now and starting a new cycle for the olympics.

No, I think 13:20 is in the cards. I think under 13:20 will be a good result, and I will be impressed. 13:20 to 13:00 is a big jump though and is not going to happen.
